Airport security Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

Gatwick and Heathrow are to become the first airports in the UK to introduce Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) for car park customers - just in time for the peak holiday season.

Pre-booked and casual users will be able to pay their parking fees by voucher, cash or credit card.

Increase in efficiency and security

Car park operators are now offered a system that can accurately manage reserved parking spaces and guarantee comprehensive security. For a pre-booked parking space, the number plate number is printed on the ticket. This saves a great deal of waiting time since the relevant vouchers no longer need to be presented on arrival. Added to this, automatic number plate recognition means that only cars that are pre-registered on the database can exit the car park - other than by crashing the barriers.
